The Man in the Middle

I really hope you can see what's going on in the photo below. I took this photo last Thursday while out for my morning run on the river trails. This is three men out for a morning walk. But let me tell you, I don't know for sure, but I think it was more than just a morning walk.

I'm not good with ages, but if I had to guess, I would say these men are probably in their 70s. If you can't tell, the man in the middle is walking with a cane. They weren't walking at a brisk clip, but they were chit chatting and seemed to be enjoying themselves. When I ran past them (this pic was taken after I turned around and caught back up to them) I could tell that the middle man looked to be recovering from some type of medical issue. I don't know what it was, maybe a stroke, maybe cancer, maybe just the loss of a loved one. I don't know. But what I do know is that he has two good friends who got up at 6:00 a.m. with him and patiently walked along with him, encouraging him, talking to him, being his friend. Again, I absolutely don't know the situation, but what I do know is those other two men are...what true friends are...someone you can count on to carry you through the tough times in life.

I hope that if there's ever a time where I'm the man in the middle that I'll have those kind of loyal friends by my side.

Getting to Know You

I promised Impulsive Addict that I'd do her new Wednesday thingy, but yesterday I had a total blonde moment and posted something else before I even remember. So I begged her to forgive me and promised her a couple gallons of th' Cap'n (not of the Crunch variety) if she'd say it's okay for me to post the Wednesday thing on Thursday. (Ok, so I didn't really promise a gallon of Captain, but it was going to be my ace that I was going to pull if she was going to try to get all nasty and tell me "NO--only on Wednesdays!" Betcha she's wishing she'd have held out a little longer. Hee hee!

Anyway...so here's my first We Want to Know You Wednesday, sponsored by Impulsive and her buds Mamarazzi, Janette, and Seriously Shawn. So even though we're a day late to the party, go on over and check out the others who played along!

What they are wanting to know about this week is Friendship. They give you 5 questions and you answer them. Here's the 'Friendship Five.' But let me tell you...I mixed it up a bit. Instead of me answering the questions. I asked my 7 year old daughter. I wanted to see what was important to 7 year olds when it came to friendship. Here it is:
1. Do you make friends easily? (remember these are Katie's answers), "no, it's kind of hard, especially when I go somewhere I don't know people. I get kind of shy. But usually people come talk to me."

2. What 3 qualities are a MUST in a friend? "They have to be nice and friendly and fun."

3. What makes YOU a good friend? "Because a good friend makes good choices and I make good choices. Because I stick together with my friends."

4. Have you ever met a bloggy friend in real life? I'll go ahead and answer for her here...no, she has not. She does not blog and has no 7 year old bloggy friends. I'll answer for myself, that I've met Dawn IRL and she's super great, though our time together at the par-tay we were at was cut short due to an accident her daughter had. And I've met Yogi. He always buys Girl Scout cookies from Katie and he's super funny and has a dry wit IRL. He's also a fellow runner, though I'm pretty sure (100% positive) he would kick my rear in a race. I've met Baloney, too, but I knew her before I entered the blogosphere, so that's kinda cheating. I would like to meet Impulsive, though.

5. Who is your best friend? Tell us about them. (back to Katie talk here). "I have a couple, but my very best friend is Maddie. We always play together on the playground and we make cards for each other. We like to play Barbie's and she showed me her special rocks. We take tap together."

Here's Katie with her BFF.
Aren't they just full of 7 year old cuteness! Gosh--I can hardly stand how precious and innocent they are.

Visiting, Visitors, Visited.

Whoa--it's been awhile. Almost a WEEK?!?! That's just craziness. My goal this month was to try to post something every day. Well...so much for that. But to our defense, we've been a little busy. It's getting to be that time of year, we've been on the go a lot and we've had visitors. Here's a little bit of our fun...

We had a fun get together with a couple of my girlfriends and their two precious baby boys. I'm very lucky to be friends with these two uber-cool gals. The three of us used to work together for the greater good of healthcare marketing and PR. :) (Starting on the left)...Hether is a media guru, used to be on Tulsa's "talk radio" station and is married to one cool cat and pro photographer of Cuervo Photography. And that's there super cute little guy, Baby MAC--one cute little dude! Then there's the not-so-supercool-me and my crew. We're just a bunch of ragamuffins. Then next to me and my wild bunch is the super cute Betsy ("Betzer")...she's Pioneer Woman's sister, but that doesn't make any difference to me. Betzer and I knew each other before Ree's leap into stardom. Betzer also used to make me get up at 5:30 a.m. to run. But I still love her. And one time I tried to kill her with pumpkin pecan butter. Long story. Man, I have a bunch of funny stories about Betz and equally as many funny photos. She has the super-stylin' little guy, Elliot. He's great-so cute!! And next to her is Reagan, Betzer's step-daughter. I can't believe that she's a grown up--last time I saw her she's was like 5 (ok, maybe 8). But, dang, she grew up! And she's gorgeous (good luck with that one, Matt & Betzer). Aren't we cool? It had been too long since the three of us had gotten together--I had so much fun catching up and getting to know their little guys. Miss you girls!

Then we had a fun visit with my cousin, Adrienne. She lives in Colorado and is going to be going into the Peace Corps sometime in the next year/year and a half. She's a TU alum so she was here for homecoming weekend. We had so much fun with her...my kids loved her! Of course they did!

And last weekend, the big dog came! Uncle Greg (WM's brother)! He was here overnight to a 2 day golf extravaganza with WM. My kiddos were all over him. Especially Josie...she was quite smitten with Uncle Greg. We all think he's pretty great.

So there's a small glimpse into what we've been doing lately. I really do promise that I'll be better about posting. It might even be just to say "hi" but there will be something there!

Happy Tuesday!
