Who's That Kid?

I snapped this photo of my Josie with my iPhone yesterday. And I just love it. This photo captures her so nicely....crazy hair, thoughful pondering look, blissfully princessy. She has such as serene, precious look on her face.

Drat! I've been spotted.

Firsts

It's tough being the youngest of 3. Just ask my Josie. That poor girl get lugged along to Girl Scouts, Tae Kwon Do, choir, dance...and she just goes along with it. It's hard when mommy is taking pictures of big sissy's first day of school and big brother's first day of preschool. She never gets a first. Or at least not for awhile.

Until today.

We decided that Josie needed something that was her special thing. So we enrolled her in Baby Big Girl Ballet ("I NOT a baby!"). Today was her first class.

And it was the most adorable thing I've ever seen.

Katie took ballet at this age (still takes it), but when we first enrolled her, it just didn't seem like ballet would be a good match for our dinosaur-loving, tiger-growling, big brother-wrestling little girl. Boy was I wrong. I loved seeing her being so in control and standing quietly and listening and being all girly (I think she liked being girly). Best of all, I loved that she knew that this activity was all hers, not something she's doing because she's being dragged there because of an older sibling.

I loved seeing this new side of my little firecracker!

Three's A Charm

Have you met this little gal?

If so, you know that something about you has changed--part of your heart is missing--because she took it. She has a way with people.

Three years ago today, this little girl stole my whole heart--and I'm okay with that.

Josie is our "hat trick" child and we certainly think "three's a charm."

Happy Birthday, my sweet little Josie!! Mommy and daddy and Katie and Patrick love you so much!

Beach-o-sauraus

If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you know that dinosaurs have invaded our lives. They are everywhere...dollhouses, backyards, beds, bathtubs. You never know when an allosaurus is going to pop up and get ya!

Well, guess who showed up on the beach...
The tiger tried to attack them to get them to go away. But it didn't work.
These were sandosauruses...they weren't going anywhere.
So we just embraced them and welcomed them to our vacation.

Mommy and Me Weekend

A couple weekends ago WM took Katie and Patrick up to Kansas to go visit Uncle Greg (WM's brother) and play golf (not the kids...the 'big boys') and play with their cousins. WM and I had been talking about how Josie was showing signs of really needing some one-on-one time with mommy. So off WM and the big kids went and Josie and I had our fun little weekend together...

We went to Starbucks. We went in instead of the drive-thru. Josie got her special drink.
We went swimming and stayed in the little pool the whole time, without being begged to go to the big pool. Much fun!
We She ate ketchup out of the packet and modeled her new shades we bought.
We went running with the single jogging stroller (mommy can't run and push the double jogger with the 80+ extra pounds in it, so going running with mommy was a big deal).
We played Little People without our brother or sister interrupting or telling us what to do.
AND we took naps.
We had so much fun and Josie was a delight to be with. She really did need that special time with mommy. I always talk about what a pill she is, but she was so precious all weekend. I can't wait to have another weekend with just me and my baby girl.

Sweet Dreams

I love watching my baby girl sleep. When she sleeps she puts her sweet little hands under her cheek just like in the old fashioned baby product advertisements. It's too cute. She's done it since the day she was born.

Here she is on August 16, 2007--the day she was born (we didn't pose her little hands like that-she just did it).

Here she is two nights ago (I know the quality of the photo isn't very good--it was a dark room and I was working with very little light and an iPhone camera).
I hope when she's a sassy teenager and I walk into her room after she's fallen asleep, that she'll be lying there with her hands tucked sweetly under her cheek. She'll still be my baby even then and my heart will still feel like it's going to explode because I love her so much.

Sugary Goodness

Remember the days when you were a kid and your mom would take you for a special treat at Merritt's Bakery? You'd stand there looking through the glass bakery case looking at all the sugary goodness trying to decide which delectable treat you'd indulge in? What choices...frosted cookies, colorful cupcakes, donuts sprinkled in the colors of the next coming holiday. What a treat those days were.

Well...I never had those days. I didn't grow up here in Oklahoma. I grew up in a small, SMALL town in Kansas. We didn't have Merritt's. We had a Peter Pan...and...Dairy Queen. If I did grow up in Oklahoma, I bet my mom would've taken us (all four of us) to Merritt's for "Special Treat Day." Because that's the kind of mom she is/was-the awesome kind! (I love my mom)!!

Anyway, today I took my two little ones to Merritt's as a reward (follow through on a bribe, really) for not fussing about going to the Y and being cooperative all morning. They gazed through the bakery case, jumping up and down, pointing at each yummy treat before each one finally picked a great big cookies decorated at cute as could be with lots of colorful icing.

We got in the car, they each took a bite. About 3 minutes down the street Patrick declared that he really didn't like his cookie ("can we go to Starbucks and get me some pumpkin bread since I don't like my cookie?" Me: "no"). Josie took a couple bites then proceeded to take the 2" of colorful frosting and smear it all over her jeans, car seat, hair, hands, face, shoes, socks, shirt, jacket. It was a mess of epic proportion.

We're not going back.
