Five Questions for Friday--You Finally Get a New Post

Oh geesh, it's been nearly a week since I posted. Dang. Sorry. I need to post but my mind is gone so luckily My Little Life has provided with Five Question Friday. So to ease my mind and for your reading enjoyment, here's today's questions. Go over to My Little Life and see some more.

1. If you had $1000 to donate to a charity, which would you choose? Hmmm, that's a toughie. I can say that whatever it would be would be a local charity with no national ties (too much overhead and not as much going to the organization...trust me, I've worked for 2 non-profits, I know how these things work). And while I love the arts more 'n my luggage, the arts are the "politically correct" and least offensive place for the high profile local wealthies to give their money (they won't have to hang with homeless or special needs people/children). So the arts are pretty well taken care of. I would probably give it to Iron Gate, the homeless kitchen in the basement of Trinity Episcopal Church. I've seen it in action, I've walked through the homeless people waiting on the steps of the church many, many Sundays on my way to service. Let me tell you $1000 would make a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. And let me also tell you, there are many, many children who are guests at Iron Gate. A hungry homeless child breaks my heart--it's not their fault.

2. Snow days: Do you welcome them happily or are they a pain in the butt? Welcome them! I love any opportunity I have to have all three of my kiddos at home with me! I'm a terrible mom who won't go out in the snow because I'm a wuss when it comes to cold, but I love snow days snuggled up with my kids! And I'm not afraid to drive in snow, either. Sledding and snowman building are left to WM, though.

3. What talent do you wish you had and why? I wish I could sew. I love unique and different clothing for myself and my kids and it's hard to find things that don't look like what everyone else has. So I wish I could sew my own creations. I can visualize outfits and styles, I just wish I could create them. I also wish I could knit.

4. Are you a news, politics or celebrity gossip junkie? Um, yes (well, not politics...can't stand politics)! I have a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism/mass communications. I spent every day of my college career reading a newspaper or watching news reports (and often creating those reports/news articles). I love the news! I'm one of the few who read the newspaper everyday, and watch the news casts every night (and usually at noon, 5 and 6pm) And I'm not a celebrity gossip junkie per se, I just like to see how absurdly most of them are acting and what the ones that I like are wearing.

5. What is your favorite "cocktail" (are you a beer person, a kiddie cocktail junkie, or perhaps a "cosmo" type? Anything flies...doesn't hafta be alcoholic). Alcoholic--pina colada. Non alcoholic--Starbucks decaf mocha or water (I'm serious). Thankyouverymuch.

There you have it.

Name That Tune!
Ok--the last song was Fire Woman by The Cult. Seriously, none of you ever heard of that?

Here's the score:
Impulsive=2
Korinne=2
JennyKate77=1

Since NTT doesn't seem to be that popular, I'm thinking we'll call it good. We'll say Korinne is the January winner (because Impulsive said she doesn't think it's fair to win two months in a row). So unless you all are REALLY wanting me to continue with NTT (and you gotta let me know if you do) then, I think this'll be it.

Only in Oklahoma #5--Jammies are for the Bedroom

I ran to the grocery store the other day because we were out of milk. It was about 8:30 p.m. My kids were in bed, WM was snoozing in the recliner. I wanted to get ready for bed, I was tired, but my kiddos were going to want cereal in the morning...and we needed milk.

Apparently this gal had the same problem.

Except she DID get ready for bed, THEN went to the store. Jammies, robe, slippers and baby (whose face I blurred out because it's not his/her fault that his mother is bat-s@%$ crazy. I would also like to mention that it was beginning to snow and was very cold--what about a coat? And no, your bathrobe is NOT a coat. Geesh). Please, people....quit wearing your jammies out in public. I seriously can't handle it anymore.

Only in Oklahoma is this appropriate shopping attire.

And let me also tell you this...I'm risking my life for your entertainment. One of these days when I'm snapping a photo of the craz-o people I'm going to get caught and they're going to get all grizzly bear nuts. But for you, my readers, I'll risk my life.

Name That Tune!
No one has gotten the one from yesterday. So here's a hint...(read between the line...or words...here). If you're on Fire, I hope you're not a Woman. Or in a Cult. Now do you know what it is? Leave me a comment and let me know.

Who's That Kid?

I snapped this photo of my Josie with my iPhone yesterday. And I just love it. This photo captures her so nicely....crazy hair, thoughful pondering look, blissfully princessy. She has such as serene, precious look on her face.

Drat! I've been spotted.
Just keep being cute.
Oh no, we're starting to get twirly.
Agh!
Ok, there she is, I don't know who that other kid is.

Name That Tune!

I'm so excited that Monday's winner was a newbie! Yay for JennyKate! She got the song, All Shook Up by Elvis (come on, people, it's was ELVIS for cryin' out loud, please tell me you know Elvis songs!)
So here's the current score:
Impulsive=2
Korinne=2
JennyKate=1
Remember, a $10 Barnes & Noble gift card goes to this month's winner.

Here's today's lyric:
"Wound up, can't sleep, can't do anything right little honey, oh since I set my eyes on you. I tell you the truth."

McLinky Monday--What I Can't Do Anymore

Wow and I'm so sorry. It's been a week since I've posted. Eeesh. But I've had my reasons, I'll talk about them tomorrow or later this week. Because today is kind of a crazy day and the kids are out of school (so chaos is ensuing) I'm going to McLink it up with the gals at the RHOK. It's easy to do because they basically tell me what to blog about, I just do it.

Today they are wanting to know Five Things I Can't Do Anymore. So here they are. Go visit them to see more.

The RHOK

Five Things I Can't Do Anymore:

Since I turned 40 last year there are quite a few things I can't do, but I narrowed down to five...

1. Wear a bikini. I've been wearing a bikini for several years, but I think this is the year of the end of the bikini. I'll admit that the lower half of my body can pull off a bikini, even my torso kind of can. It's the real estate up north that has brought my bikini wearing days to a screeching halt. I saw a photo of myself that was taken recently and I knew "the girls" had gotten droopy, but man-oh-man, I didn't realize it was THAT bad...maybe I was in denial. Doesn't matter, things need to be corrected, but I don't do doctors and mostly I don't do surgery unless required, so how am I possibly going to get this problem resolved? I don't know, maybe a visit to The Bust Stop or that other bra shop in town...what's it called...anyone know?

2. Get a full night's sleep. Between a certain 3 year old that find her way into our bed each night and the insomnia I've been dealing with, it's been a long while since I've had a good nights sleep. Now add these two furry punks (pictured above) who think our bed is their personal lounge and wrestling ring (at 3:00 a.m., thankyouverymuch) all hope is lost. I'm learning how to function. Kind of. Just don't ask me anything important. Like my name.
3. Drink alcohol. Okay, technically I can drink alcohol, but since I've "aged" I can only handle about 1 glass of wine. It's dumb but it's true. It wasn't this way in college and post-college. WM wishes it were still that way. I don't know if it's truly a physical thing (which I think it is) or if it's mental and I feel like I need to be able to function and make decision in case something comes up with the kiddos. Maybe it's a combination of the two. Either way, I'm a lightweight now...love me or leave me.
4. Wear glittery eye shadow. Ladies, if you're over 40 (really even past about 37ish) glittery eye shadow probably isn't the best look for you. Maybe I should reword it to say...if you have any wrinkles or your eye area looks "crepe-y" this isn't the look for you. Shimmer shadow is okay, matte is okay...just not glitter. It really accentuates any wrinkles and flaws you have around your eye area.

5. Wear stiletto heels. This one is so sad. I used to wear these kind of shoes nearly everyday, especially when I was working. And dang, do they make your legs look good (on a side note...every lady should have a pair of nude/beige high heels. They elongate and slim your legs and make you look fabulous. Trust me on this one...just go buy some like the above. No, they don't have to be Jimmy Choo's, just somewhat like those pictured above). Anyway...since I quit working to stay home and wear my running shoes most days when I slip on my heels for a special occasion, yowzaa! Ouch! Plus they give me cramps in my feet all night long after I've worn them. I do love, love, love me some high heels (because my 5'10" self needs to be taller). Luckily for some reason wedge heels don't bother me. I don't know why. Either way...I love you stilettos, will you still be my friend?

There it is...my five "I Can'ts". What are some of yours? Go to the RHOK and link up!

Name That Tune!
No one got the the song from last Monday, but Korinne had the right idea. It is the hymn "How Great Thou Art." So here's the score:
Impulsive=2
Korinne=2

Here's today's lyric:
"My hands are shaky and my knees are weak, I can't seem to stand on my own two feet."

PMS?

I find it funny that my 7 year old thinks this is what PMS makes you feel like. I found this drawing in her room this morning when I was picking up.

I'm sure that P.M.S. stands for something else. But let's all pretend that it means you will feel like a princess. I'll let you know in a couple weeks.

Name That Tune!

Once again, Impulsive rocked it and got yesterday's answer...Tiny Dancer by Elton John. So here's the score:
Impulsive=2
Korinne=1

And here's today's lyric:

"When through the woods and forest glades I wander, I hear the birds, sing sweetly in the trees."

What's that song?

Perfect Pairings--Things Unseen

This photo was taken outside of Thayer, KS a couple weeks ago when I was meeting my mother-in-law to do the switch-a-roo with Katie (Katie spent several days with my in laws in KC during Christmas break). The fog gradually got thicker and thicker, at it's worst visibility was only about 30-40 yards. I didn't like it one bit. But I thought the below Bible verse was a perfect pairing and a good reminder of how as we are barrelling down life's highway into the unknown, God has us in his arms and we must be faithful and trust in Him even though He is unseen. Go see Baloney for more Perfect Pairings.

So we fix our eyes on not what is seen, but on what is unseen, because what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. --2 Corinthians 4:18.

Name That Tune!

Congrats to Korinne who got Thursday's NTT! It was Brad Paisley, I can't remember the song off the top of my head--that shows you how much I know my country music. So here's the score for January:

Impulsive=1
Korinne=1

Oh--this month's prize is a $10 gift card to Barnes & Noble bookstore.

Here's today's lyric:

"Piano man, he makes his stand in the auditorium. Looking on she sings the songs, the words she knows the tune she hums."

SO easy, people...tomorrow when I tell you the answer, I tell you a little story about that song, too. Leave me a message and tell what that song is!

Only in Oklahoma #4--Grapes of Wrath

I snapped this pic while driving down Peoria the other day...in kind of the 'happening' part of Peoria where all the trendy clubs and restaurants are. How 'bout this fella...and all his mattresses? Really? REALLY? What is there, five, six? And is that a dog kennel under all those mattresses? Man...

Come on, don't tell me that when you saw that picture that you didn't think Grapes of Wrath. You know you did. Maybe the driver of that truck is Mr. Joads great grandson. Whatever...only in Oklahoma.

"Okie use' ta mean you was from Oklahoma. Now it means you're a dirty son-of-a-bitch. Okie means you're scum. Don't mean nuthin' itself, it's the way they say it." --Grapes of Wrath, Chapter 18.

Keep it classy, Oklahoma!

Name That Tune!

Ok, I was super excited that we had some guesses and no Googling yesterday (thank you Korinne). The first person to get it right was, again, Impulsive Addict. Yesterday's song was Our Lips are Sealed by the Go Go's!! (but, Korinne, you made a good effort and guess, I can see why you thought it was the song you said). Yay, Go Go's! So here's today's score:

Impulsive=1
Everyone else=0

Here's today's lyric:
"Well you like to drink a cold one on the weekend and get a little loud. You wanna say I'm sorry or I love ya, but you don't know how."

Name that tune (I'll 'fess up, to mix things up and use different genres, I had to Google this song, because I don't really listen to this genre).

Can YOU Hear Them?

Obviously I've stumped everyone with yesterday's Name That Tune. Was it too hard, or are you guys just not into 80's alternative music. The answer was Mexican Radio by Wall of VooDoo. It's a totally awesome song, ya'll! Listen to it!! So I guess the score is still: Everyone=0.

So, I'll make it a little easier today:

Here's today's Name That Tune! lyric:

"Can you hear them? They talk about us, telling lies, well that's no surprise."

What is it???

Name That Tune--Hint #1

So apparently we're having a little trouble with yesterday's Name That Tune! So here's your first hint:

Popular in the 80's and it's by a band called Wall of VooDoo.

A Great Big **Sigh**

Well, I've been MIA for a couple days. I missed Perfect Pairings Sunday (which I actually had a good one...maybe next Sunday), I missed McLinky Monday about what I did for NYE (nothing, was in my jammies by 6:30 p.m.), I've just plain missed blogging for the past few days.

I'm not one to get on the ol blog and talk about how tired I am or how sick I've felt or how busy I've been. Come on, ya'll, we're all (most of us who read this) parents, which make us naturally tired and busy. But for the past few days I've just felt tired, not well, dizzy, weak, sickish...in a different sort of way. So I've just been vegging out on the couch. Doing a little laundry, picking up here and there. Taking kids to where ever they need to go. But after a few days of just feeling "off" I finally decided to call the dr. That's HUGE for me. The last time I saw a doctor was somewhere in October 2007 (6 week post partum check up after having Josie). I. don't. do. doctors. Mostly because I don't get sick. I really don't have any fear of going to the doctor or anything, I just don't feel normally what ails me is necessary to go see a doc about. But something in my gut is telling me I need to be checked out. So, tomorrow, off I go to see my PCP. Hopefully it's nothing, but in a way I hope they say "it's __________" here, "take this _____________" you'll feel better. But then again....I don't take medicine/vitamins/supplements either (unless medically necessary), so I'll have to go down that road (maybe) tomorrow. We'll see.

So, until then, I'm just going to lay around a little more and pray that everything is okay.

Maybe tomorrow I'll do a What Would You Rather Do? Wednesday. Hopefully I'll be feeling up to it. Plus, I'll be minus one kiddo...Katie goes back to school tomorrow.

Have a nice Tuesday!

Name That Tune!!

Congrats to December's winner!! Impulsive Addict! Yay for you!!! Impulsive, email me (you have my email) your address and I'll send you your Sonic card. I know that I said it was a Starbucks card, but Impulsive doesn't drink coffee or have a 'Bucks in her town...so being the flexible and caring blogger that I am, I'm giving her a Sonic card!

So, let's start fresh for January, here's the score....everyone=0. Here's today's lyric:

"I wish I was in Tijuana, eating barbecued iguana."

Leave me a comment and name that tune!
