Monday Weirdness

Good Monday Morning!!

How was your Thanksgiving? Ours was great. I'll share more on it in another post.

But today I'm catching up on laundry from our trip. So I'll leave you with this...

This weirds me out...
Does it kind of creep you out, too?

Happy Monday--tomorrow is DECEMBER! AGH!

Black Friday is for Weenies

This is just one of the reasons I don't go shopping on Black Friday. I don't like shopping with crowds. I do love to shop, but I have very specific rules. One of the main ones being, shop on my schedule and pace. And there's no way I'm getting up at 5:00 a.m.

Black Friday? No thank you-I'll leave that up to my sister and the other pro-shoppers.

Now...turn on some football and hand me another piece of pie!

Happy Shopping!

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving! Today I am thankful for all of you, my friends, both IRL and virtual. Thank you for reading this silly little blog and keeping me entertained with your comments and feedback. You make me smile day after day. I wish you all of God's blessings today and everyday.

Heavenly Father, on Thanksgiving Day
We bow our hearts to You and pray.
We give You thanks for all You've done
Especially for the gift of
Jesus, Your Son.
For beauty in nature, Your glory we see
For joy and health, friends and family,
For daily provision, Your mercy and care
These are the blessings You graciously share.
So today we offer this response of praise
With a promise to follow You all of our days.

What Would You Rather Do? Wednesday, Thanksgiving Edition

Here's a little What Would You Rather Do? Wednesday...Thanksgiving style. It's all about the food, right?

Would you rather?

Get smarter with the more food you eat?

or

Be able to eat anything and never get fat?

I TOTALLY know the answer to this one (it might surprise you)...leave me a comment and let me know what you'd rather do!

My answer to last week's question...I'd rather drive (well...I'd rather fly by myself, just not with the kiddos. I love to fly...I think it has something to do with being a pilot's daughter). It's just easier to keep the kids confined in the car and I can find things to entertain them.

Dirty Thanksgiving

Since I promised that I'd put up a post every most days, yet I'm super busy making pies, baking cake, and trying to wrap up a little Christmas shopping (I know, pick yourself up off the floor...I actually bought a Christmas present BEFORE December 24), I thought I'd leave you with this Top Ten List:

Top Ten Thanksgiving Things That Sound Dirty, But Aren't

10."It must be broken because when I push on the tip, nothing squirts out."

9. "If I don't unbutton my pants, I'm going to burst."

8. "It's Cool Whip time!"

7. "She's 5000 pounds fully inflated, and it take 15 men to hold her down."

6. "And he forces his way into the end zone."

5. "Talk about a HUGE breast."

4. "Tying the legs together will keep the inside moist."

3. "I'm in the mood for a little dark meat."

2. "Whew...that's one terrific spread!"

1. "Reach in and grab the gibblets."

-from jokecenter.com

I promise I'm not a perv, I just think some of these are funny and will probably be overheard at my mother's household over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Safe travels to all who are traveling and happy cooking to all who are cooking!

Monday Morning Book Review

I know, I know, probably the best way to get people to quit reading your blog is to do a book review first thing on a Monday morning. But...I gotta do it now before I lose my thoughts on this book. I'll say it again...if you don't like book reviews...just come on back tomorrow for something new, fun and exciting!

A couple days ago I (finally) finished reading The Host by Stephenie Meyers. That is the same author who wrote the Twilight series. I really liked the Twilight series so I was a little curious to see how she'd do with another book...different story.

I'm not going to give away anything about the book, but by reading the inside flap you'll get the basic story line...aliens have taken over earth by being "inserted" into human bodies. I know it sounds hokey--kind of is--but she did a pretty good job with this aspect of it. Basically the humans are "hosts" for these aliens and take over their brains. These aliens have zero violent tendencies, can't lie, share equally, etc. So basically earth is changed because there is no need for money, police, etc. This is the part of the book that I think would've been really interesting if she would have expanded on it. What would it be like if there basically was no economy? But she just mentions those types of things here and there.

Her main character, Melanie, is taken over by an alien...but Melanie is a fighter and doesn't completely give way to the alien and the alien can hear her in her head. Talk about being of two minds.

Without giving away too much, the story then is then basically 600+ pages of how she is brought into a cove of humans who are hiding in caves and how she (the alien) comes to have human emotions and how those emotions and the way we (humans) interact with each other is what makes us a superior species and makes our love and/or hate for each other or anyone who might hurt us the strongest species in the universe.

There definitely some very hokey parts...when Melanie the Alien (Melanie the person couldn't make her body talk--only the alien could hear her) would talk about the other worlds she'd been on. That part seemed a little silly to me, but I guess you needed that part to realize how complex and wonderful humans are.

It was a good story...a little long, and I guess I'd recommend it to others. It doesn't have that captivating component that the author's Twilight series had. You certainly wouldn't stay up all night reading this. It wraps up nicely at the end, but is also definitely left open for the possibility of a sequel.

So, on my scale so of 0-5 stars, I'd give this one a 3 1/2, maybe a 3.75 (can you do that)?

Perfect Pairings-Proverbs 19:11

My 2-year-old has been testing me lately with her orneriness (see previous post), so this Perfect Pairing is dedicated to her.

A man's wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense. --Proverbs 19:11

You Might Have a 2-Year-Old If...

You find random marker colorings on the wall.

A blur of random nakedness streaks by you at a birthday party (in public).
Yes, that is my child.

All the books on the bookshelf have been pulled down.

Your sister's make-up is dumped out all over her cosmetics drawer after an afternoon visit.
(Thankfully I have the best sister in the world who emailed me this photo after finding the mess and told me she actually thought it was a little bit funny).

You find random hair clippings on the floor.

You might have a 2-year-old if all of these things have happened within 5 days of each other.

What Would You Rather Do? Wednesday

Since Thanksgiving is coming up, I thought I'd throw out a travel question for ya. I'm sure there's at one of you out there that will be traveling for Thanksgiving.

So, what would you rather do?

Travel by car for many hours with small children (dealing with the "I need to go potty" and "are we there yet", fighting between the kiddos, etc.)

or

Travel by plane for a few hours with small children (dealing with getting everything checked, worrying about your kids kicking the seat in front of them, disturbing other passengers, etc.)

Isn't traveling with kids fun?

As for last week's question...that's tough, I used to not like pie, but now I think I'll have to go with yummy cherry pie! Yum, yum, I make a mean cherry pie. Unless it's chocolate sheet cake...I have a weakness for that.

Visiting, Visitors, Visited.

Whoa--it's been awhile. Almost a WEEK?!?! That's just craziness. My goal this month was to try to post something every day. Well...so much for that. But to our defense, we've been a little busy. It's getting to be that time of year, we've been on the go a lot and we've had visitors. Here's a little bit of our fun...

We had a fun get together with a couple of my girlfriends and their two precious baby boys. I'm very lucky to be friends with these two uber-cool gals. The three of us used to work together for the greater good of healthcare marketing and PR. :) (Starting on the left)...Hether is a media guru, used to be on Tulsa's "talk radio" station and is married to one cool cat and pro photographer of Cuervo Photography. And that's there super cute little guy, Baby MAC--one cute little dude! Then there's the not-so-supercool-me and my crew. We're just a bunch of ragamuffins. Then next to me and my wild bunch is the super cute Betsy ("Betzer")...she's Pioneer Woman's sister, but that doesn't make any difference to me. Betzer and I knew each other before Ree's leap into stardom. Betzer also used to make me get up at 5:30 a.m. to run. But I still love her. And one time I tried to kill her with pumpkin pecan butter. Long story. Man, I have a bunch of funny stories about Betz and equally as many funny photos. She has the super-stylin' little guy, Elliot. He's great-so cute!! And next to her is Reagan, Betzer's step-daughter. I can't believe that she's a grown up--last time I saw her she's was like 5 (ok, maybe 8). But, dang, she grew up! And she's gorgeous (good luck with that one, Matt & Betzer). Aren't we cool? It had been too long since the three of us had gotten together--I had so much fun catching up and getting to know their little guys. Miss you girls!

Then we had a fun visit with my cousin, Adrienne. She lives in Colorado and is going to be going into the Peace Corps sometime in the next year/year and a half. She's a TU alum so she was here for homecoming weekend. We had so much fun with her...my kids loved her! Of course they did!

And last weekend, the big dog came! Uncle Greg (WM's brother)! He was here overnight to a 2 day golf extravaganza with WM. My kiddos were all over him. Especially Josie...she was quite smitten with Uncle Greg. We all think he's pretty great.

So there's a small glimpse into what we've been doing lately. I really do promise that I'll be better about posting. It might even be just to say "hi" but there will be something there!

Happy Tuesday!

A Sweet Edition of What Would You Rather Do? Wednesday

I've been baking a lot lately, so I thought I'd just throw this one out there...

For dessert would you rather have...

Pie

or

Cake

You know Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming up quickly so we might as well loosen our jeans and start thinking about dessert!

Happy Wednesday!

Oh--and as you can tell, we're continuing What Would You Rather Do? Wednesday. That's what everyone said they wanted...and I'm all about pleasing, you know!

Happy Birthday to...

Today is WM's birthday!!! So, everyone wish him a happy birthday then leave him alone. He really, really doesn't like having birthdays. But he's married to a gal (that would be me) who likes to not ignore birthdays.

I love you, WM...Happy Birthday...and many more (and please don't snore, or be a bore, or I'll kick you out the door, down to the shore...ok, enough).

Here's WM (and me--one of the other things he really doesn't like besides his birthday is getting his photo taken, so I don't have any decent of just him).

Love you!

Happy Birthday!

We Have a Winner!

Congrats to the ever silly BALONEY!!!! She wins the $10 gift card to Target! Whoopie!!!!

She was the first of the "Final Four" to leave me a comment--which she affectionately told me that my blog is her favorite blog--which I doubt because she's a super famous blogger and has won many awards--but hey, if I'm her fav for 1 day, I'm all for that!!

Baloney--since I know how to get ahold of you, I'll be getting you your gift card. Maybe I'll present it to you when we go see New Moon. We ARE going to go see New Moon--right?????

The Winner! Kind of

Well...I'm kind of in a pickle. I had a contest and thought there would be a clear winner with someone being the closest. BUT...everyone was equally wrong. Everyone guessed some type of animal. Which the drawing was not. No one was closer than anyone else. So I'm not sure what to do. I could give a hint, but I really don't think that would help. According to WM, "no one is ever going to guess it."

So here's what we're going to do...

Four people left comments...Korinne, Baloney, Kathleen and Nick...the first one of you four to leave me a comment on this post will win. It can be any comment...you can tell me, "you should've come up with a Plan B" or "you're a real dummy" but I'm sure your comment will be "you're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen" or "I've never met someone as smart as you" or something along those lines.

So...GO...comment (you 4 that are eligible)...first one wins! It's a sprint!

AND...do you want to know what that was a drawing of???

It was a drawing of a map of the United States.

I have a brilliant son...look at the pic again, now do you see it?

Guess What?!?!

It's been awhile since we've had a contest around here. So today's your lucky day!! Here are the rules:

1. Contest end tomorrow (Friday, Nov. 6) at 6:00 p.m. CST (because I have so many global readers I have to clear that up-ha ha ho ho huh huh hee hee).
2. One entry per person
3. Enter by leaving a comment.
4. WM can't play--he knows the answer.

So here we go. Tell me what this is a drawing of (done by Patrick on the white board in WM's office). Like I said...whoever gets the closest to the answer will win--I know this is a tough one.

It's just the blue part I'm talking about--the black scribbling above it is not part of the picture.

Winner will receive a gift card to Target for $10 (sorry it's not of the caliber of Pioneer Woman's giveaways or anything...Christmas is coming and I need to be saving up for Barbie Dreamhouses and Transformers).

Good Luck!

What Would You Rather Do? Wednesday

I'm thinking of taking a little hiatus for What Would You Rather Do? Wendesday. It really won't hurt my feelings if you don't want me to do these anymore. I would just like to know.

So here's today's What Would You Rather Do?

Continue What Would You Rather Do? Wednesday

or

Have me find find something else to blog about on Wednesdays.

Now, I really need you people to let me know...in otherwords...leave a comment. You know I'm a people pleaser (it's because I'm a middle child...we care more about others than ourselves). So let me know what YOU want.

Halloween Round-Up

Halloween has come and gone. It "treated" us well and no one "tricked" us by getting sick (which seems to happen each year). We basically had 4 Rounds of Halloween. So I'll just give it to you in pictures.

Oh--what were the kids, you ask?
Katie--Sandy (from Grease), a.k.a. 50's girl
Josie--cowgirl (who doesn't believe in wearing a cowboy hat, or anything on her head for that matter).
Patrick--Dinosaur, Batman, Football player (you'll see...)

Round 1 (Oct. 28): Trunk or Treat at Katie's school.

This photo was taken before they left the house.

Round 2 (Oct. 30): Cedar Ridge CC Kid's Halloween Party

Patrick in the costume parade.

Katie just hanging out.

Josie checking out my dinner.

Round 3 (Oct. 31): Boo Ha Ha parade

Sorry--no photos during Boo Ha Ha, we just wore our Halloween shirts for the parade because our costumes were in the wash.

Round 4 (Oct. 31): Halloween Trick or Treating.

The Three Little Lams getting ready to hit the streets!
Hope you all had a GREAT Halloween and didn't get too spooked!

Perfect Pairing

This photo was taken of Baby Lam when she saw one of the waiters at the country club dressed up as something scary on Friday night at the Halloween. She was a little scared of that even though I was telling her it was just a man dressed up.

So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. --Matthew 10:26
